About the Cycle to Work Scheme

The Cycle to Work Scheme is a Government initiative aimed at supporting the Green Transport Plan and the use of bikes as a more sustainable mode of transport to travel to and from work. The aim of the Scheme is to get more of your employees cycling to work which will in turn reduce traffic congestion, reduce pollutions levels, solve parking problems and help to improve your employees’ general health and fitness.

The Gemelli Cycle to Work Scheme offers companies a simple, flexible and effective way of providing Tax Free bikes to their employees.

How the Cycle to Work Scheme Operates

  • Employee chooses a bike and accessories, obtains a quote and completes a Cycle to Work Scheme Application Form
  • Company pays Gemelli to cover the purchase of the bicycle and safety equipment
  • Gemelli aranges for the Employee to obtain the bicycle and safety equipment from the supplier of thier choice. This can be delivered direct to the employee or the employee can collect from their local independent cycle supplier
  • Company may treat the bicycle as a business purchase and reclaim the VAT
  • Company recovers the cost of the bicycle and equipment from the employee via Salary Sacrifice Agreement
  • Employee pays a fixed monthly amount over a 12 or 18 months period from gross salary saving Tax and National Insurance Contributions
  • Company also saves on Employers National Insurance Contributions
  • Company retain ownership over the term of the Agreement
  • At the end of the Hire Agreement the employee will have the option to purchase the bicyle and equipment at the  Market Value as calculated using the HMRC Guide.  Read our End of Scheme Options below for further details.
